What does breast augmentation entail?
Breast augmentation (also referred to as chest feminization or top surgery for transwomen) is an excellent option for those transwomen and non-binary individuals who are seeking a more feminine-looking upper body. Hormone therapy can only go so far to create the physique most MTF clients desire.
During breast augmentation, the chest is recontoured and enhanced with silicone or saline breast implants. The size and shape of the implants can be customized to your unique wishes and aesthetic sensibilities. The ultimate goal of the surgery is to make you feel more secure and at home in your body, presenting to the world your most authentic and confident self.
Dr. Satterwhite and Dr. Gurujal will help you to make the best choices for your goals.
We will help you to make the best choices for your goals. You will choose:
- Implant cup size
- Implant material (silicone or saline)
- Incision pattern
- Placement of the implant (behind or in front of the pec muscles)
- The addition or alternative technique of autologous fat grafting
What are the benefits of male to female top surgery/breast augmentation?
- Greater congruence between inner and outer self
- Improved confidence in one’s appearance
- Ability to wear feminine clothing and swimwear
- A more alluring and inviting silhouette
- Long-lasting outcome
- Natural-looking breasts
- Ability to feel at ease when being intimate with a partner
Who makes the best top surgery candidate?
Good candidates have one letter of support from a qualified mental health professional stating the patient’s readiness to undergo breast augmentation. Clients should be over 18 and taking hormones, with at least 1 year of real life experience living as a woman. In addition, all candidates for surgery must be non-smokers, of sound mind and body, have good social support, with realistic expectations for their outcome based on their confidential consultation with Dr. Satterwhite and Dr. Gurujal in San Francisco.
What can I expect from recovery?
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you will be able to leave the surgical facility after your operation once you have recovered from the general anesthesia. Breast augmentation will require that you take about 5-7 days off from work in order to give the body time to heal and rest. We take pain control quite seriously, so he will ensure you are completely comfortable with prescription pain medications. All sutures will dissolve over time. You will be fitted with a compression bra after surgery. This is to help reduce swelling and to keep the new shape of your chest intact. You will be seen again by Dr. Satterwhite or Dr. Gurujal for follow up in 1-2 weeks.
What are the fees for breast augmentation in San Francisco?
Cost will vary a great deal depending on the type of implants you choose, the extent of the work performed, the anesthesia fees, the facility fees and the surgeon’s fees. Dr. Satterwhite and Dr. Gurujal know it can be difficult to plan for a surgery if you don’t know the exact cost, so he will provide you with a customized, in-depth quote after your private San Francisco consultation. Our office will help you manage your insurance options as well as the healthcare financing you can obtain to help with the surgery fees.
