What is a lip lift?

The subtle differences between male and female lips can greatly impact the overall femininity of the face and smile. Men tend to have thinner lips, and a longer distance between the mouth and the nose. Women’s upper lips are fuller and lie closer to the base of the nose. In addition, with a woman’s anatomy, the upper teeth should be slightly visible. To achieve these changes in a natural, flattering manner, a surgical lip lift can be performed by a qualified, board certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Satterwhite, Dr. Pang, or Dr. Gurjala in San Francisco.

A lip lift may include two distinct treatments:

Upper lip reduction

Using an incision under the nose, the upper lift is raised to reveal more of the teeth and shorten the distance from the lips to the nose. This also creates a poutier contour of the upper lip.

Lift for the corners of the mouth

The corners of the mouth are slightly raised to complete the feminization of the mouth and to increase the the show of red portion of the lips.

What will recovery entail?

You will be able to return home right away after a lip lift, and you can go back to work in about 3-4 days. Swelling, discomfort and tenderness may continue for a few weeks. Sutures are removed within 1 week, and you will have a chance to see our surgical team for a follow up to ensure your recovery is on track.
